2d Sandbox Test 4 RELEASED!

Hey people! The 4th, and BIGGEST test build for my 2d sandbox game is now out!

Here are the exciting changes!!

Features

  • Better placing/breaking system!
    • You can no longer place tiles mid-air
    • You can only break/place in a certain radius around you
    • You can no longer replace tiles
    • It takes time to break tiles now
    • You no longer have to hold shift to break wall tiles, it will just automatically break them if no foreground tiles are in front. You still need to use shift when placing walls, however.
  • Animations!
    • A swinging animation now plays when you place/break
    • The item you are holding is no longer visible, unless the swinging animation is playing. This is done to be less intrusive.
    • A cracking animation plays on tiles you are breaking
  • New item system!
    • A robust item system has been added
    • I can now add tools to the game which allow for better mining speeds
    • Items do not need to be tiles anymore
    • I have added one new item to the game: The pickaxe, which increases mining speed by a lot compared to your fist

Changes

  • Re-did all the tile textures (again)
    •  I made lots of the blocks such as dirt and stone look less smooth
    • Sand & sandstone are less of a harsh yellow now
    • Planks are now comprised of larger wooden boards
  • Changed the hotbar selection texture to be orange instead of yellow
  • Made terrain a bit more extreme
  • When you go deeper and mine out the wall tiles, you now see black behind instead of bright sky
  • You will no longer fall infinitely in the void, instead stopping at ~10 tiles down

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where the game would sometimes crash when hitting ESC on windows
    • This seems to still be happening, although a little less common now.

Sorry to say, but I still crash sometimes when pressing escape on windows...

Also, it looks like you published the Windows Test 3 instead of the Mac Test 3 on this page

Darn! Thought I fixed that issue... time to look into it again...
